Whether or not they will get along will depend on individuals more than breed.
You can bring the pup with you to the SPCA and let him pick out his own buddy. They have "family rooms" where you and the pup can meet and greet all the doggies. Pick the one that gets along best with yours.
Cheers.

You don't want another German Shorthair? A Beagle loves both dogs and people. Do you like any of these dogs: Golden Retrievers, Labradors (if children aren't too young to handle all that exuberance),or Boxers?

well that all depends.. do you like the german shorthaired pointer breed, if so get another one as a playmate... if not do you want to get a small, medium, or large breed dog? then you gotta know if you want a hyper playful dog or quiet lazy dog or protective dog or loud dogs... retrievers and terriors are very hyper and playful dogs sometimes loud... german shepards, rotts, dobermans are of course your more protective, and then your lazy is like small dogs: yorkies, small spainels, most small dogs are calm and lazy but not all... then you have your hounds which are for more of your hunting dogs that are also noisey and if you want large and lazy you coud go with something like saint bernard or mastiff or great dane... it just all depends.. you definitly need to be more detailed wih your question on what direction your going in to get more of an answer

That's entirely up to you. You can select any breed (except those few known to be dog aggressive) that fits your life style and appeals to you. Your pointer puppy will be able to get along with just about any dog you choose, but you'd be best not to get any really small breed that he couldn't play and exercise with.
