The antibiotics she was given were probably erythromycin. This works for most infections, but some bacteria are resistant to it. You should go back to your doctor, who hopefully took a urine sample when you went the first time. By now, they should know what antibiotics the infection is most susceptible to, i.e. which ones are the best to use. If not, they will have to take a urine sample now and you will have to wait a few days. Another antibiotic should clear it up within three or four days, but you must always finish the tablets.

Go back to the doctors office and they will give her a different antibiotic. There are many resistant strains and they will give her a 'stronger' medication and then culture the urine to make sure it works. It is important that you go back soon because 8 days is a long time and things can get worse and effect other things such as fertility is left too long. The symptoms will resolve in less then a day or so with appropriate antibiotics.

Usually gone within two to three days but syptoms can persist for a few more days. Flushing out IS important. Keep her drinking plenty of water, soft drinks (especially cranberry juice) etc. Try not to let her eat or chew on anti acid tablets ( harmless in their own right) because they reduce or eliminate the natural acids in the urine which help prevent infections in the first place.

Most urinary tract infections clear up quickly – within days – when the appropriate antibiotics are started.

Usually they give a ten day dose with a urinary tract infection. Most people start feeling better and stop the pills-make sure she takes them all when you get another prescription. Poor thing-it is maddening to have one.

Sorry herbs but Ive never been privileged with such a thing as a urinary tract infection. Can't you just call her doctor?

Sometimes you might need another course of antibiotics. So it might be worth taking another urine sample to the doctors. Also make sure she also wears cotton underwear, as this will help.
Make sure she drinks plenty of water the symptoms may go on for about 2 to 3 weeks.
If you are unsure like i say take urine sample and go back to doctors.

it shoulnt be that long 48 hours really, you can actually get it from taking antibiotics, the best thing would be go back to your doctor, make sure your daughter drinks loads of water and cranberry juice.
I had one that lasted 3 weeks I was in agony and had to sleep next to the toilet, but I had run myself down.
