Thank you. I did go and read. It is a big help, but I'm still confused because my freinds husband has been in ICU with pneumonia for 5 days on a resporator and they are saying that its linked to his alchaholism and that he has symptoms of alps...I guess what it all boils down to is that because hes an alchaholic that its adding to the complications. Gosh, its just all so confusing and it just doesnt sound good for him.
They told her that he has a 50-50 chance of making it. He is in his 30s and has always been perfectly healthy. He basically got phneumonia overnite.

From what I have read, it is an autoimmune disease. Both alcoholism and ALPS can put a strain on your liver and spleen, though. Most people that have ALPS have a genetic defect in a gene that regulates cell death (aka apoptosis). I have linked to a great website from the NIH on ALPS.
