The original intent of the 14th amendment was to protect the newly freed slaves from being shipped back to where ever they were taken from. It gave them full citizenship in America. It was never intended to become a
"loop hole "for illegal aliens. So they could get an "anchor" that would allow their child access to entitlements here in this nation.
The 14th amendment needs to be repealed or clarified as to its intent. Although a few lines in it does make it clear. Why it continues to be abused is simply beyond me.Like the incarceration of the Border Patrol agents.
It all just seems to be more of the
De-Americanization of the USA.

As a recent immigrant to the US from Australia via marriage, sadly from what I have seen so far, YES. The below link that I came across recently is a good case in point of one situation where the 14th Amendment is being violated. It is not ONLY an immigrant issue. It is widespread.

Most definately. This amendment was not intended as it is being mis-interpreted today. Certainly the people writing the amendment didn't want the country to undergo an invasion with this amendment being held up as the justification.

The 14th amendment states that:
"Children born to aliens who are lawfully inside the United States (resident or visitor), with the intention of amicably interacting with its people and obeying its laws." are U.S. citizens.

But illegals are NOT lawfully inside the U.S. and so their children are not legal U.S. citizens - never have been. This needs to be interpreted correctly and grandfathered in.

Yes it sure is. But if you read the whole 14th Amendment, there is a fine line there. So what we need to do is make it a little more clear. In my mind, your mother, your father, or both should not be illegal aliens.

somebody in a question I wrote in regard to 14th substitute stated there could desire to be a addendum related to it that states that between the mummy and dad must be from US. Repealing the excellent element might take time. it somewhat is ironic that the substitute replaced into initially meant for blacks born here and now it somewhat is getting out of hand.

I believe you only should be able to become a legal US citizen when either one or both of the parents are born US citizens or legal citizens.
If none of the parents are legal here, so won't be the children. Parents that are vacationing here and are from a foreign country and their baby gets born here, doesn't make the child a citizen either.

"In 1994, Alma Meza Guitierrez traveled hundreds of miles with her three year old son through Mexico and across the U.S. border in order to reach her aunt and uncle’s small apartment in San Diego. She lives in squalid conditions in the apartment’s kitchen, she does not speak English and has little prospects for employment. Why would a 20-year-old mother of one give up her life in Mexico to endure such circumstances? Alma is pregnant and she, like thousands of other women who enter the United States illegally each year, knows that giving birth in the U.S. means her child will be an’anchor baby’ and granted U..S. citizenship. For Alma, that means her child will immediately qualify for a slew of federal, state and local benefit programs. In addition, when Alma’s child turns 21,he can sponsor the immigration of other members of the Guitierrez clan."

Unfortunately, it is being used as a political device now that is simply causing more racism, hatred, and division as things progress. See Al Sharpton for more details.

No it is not I was born to illegal parents and just so you can know if we are born here we deserve our citizenship. So all you people saying that it is being abused think of the fact that your ancestors were also immigrants.
