most of the one it my area the age is 16 and you have to have certain shots but if you go to the hospital and ask their policies you may be able to at a younger age... worst comes to worst ask if you can read to sick children or the eldery... I doubt many hospitals would turn such a nice offer away :o) GL

I was 13 when I first volunteered at the hospital. I did that until I was 15 and heard that the kitchen was hiring part-time tray passers. I did that until I was 18 and then got into the EKG/Stress dept. I then went on to be a Registered Cardiac Sonographer which pays a bit more then RN wages.

Volunteering helped me start out my career on the right foot. I don't regret any of my decisions and thankful that I had the insight at such a young age to do something for the community, which in turn rewarded me in many ways.

Have fun!

most hospitals are 13 and there are certain jobs you need to be 16 to do but just look it up on the hospital you want to volunteer at's website. I started volunteering at a hospital when I was 14 and after a few years I got a paying job there! :)

It depends on the hospital that your planning to volunteer at. The minimum age at my hospital is 15 years old. It also depends on what part of the hospital you want to volunteer at because sometimes junior volunteers cannot go to certain places in the hospital.

It all depends on the hospital. Many hospitals have summer volunteer programs that accept volunteers as young as 14. In many programs, volunteers typically do administrative work, transport gifts and flowers and newspapers to patients, work as receptionists, and many other things.

I started volunteering at my local hospital at age 14, and I've been volunteering at various other projects ever since. Check with the Volunteer Office, Auxiliary Office, Community Relations, or Human Resources office at your local hospital to find out what the current age requirements. Every hospital is different, based upon their own policies.

Here's a link to help you find a local hospital:

You can also find similar projects through your volunteer center:

Sometimes you can also find volunteer work at affiliated non-profit groups as well, such as the blood bank, Cancer Society, Heart Association, etc.

Good luck!

I believe the requirements are 16 yrs of age and no criminal record, and in some hospitals they require a first aid certificate, The only problem you may have is that they won't take you on unless you have some kind of organisation to cover your butt for insurance purposes, check out your local job agency, they should be able to help you. If your still at school go and see your careers adviser.
