Hi Shawna,
Sugar dependency is a REAL addiction. Check out these articles on sugar addiction.

Then take a look at EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique.) It is very effective.

As great as sugar tastes and makes your brain feel temporarily, it is no comparison to how terrible you feel when you realize too late that you have developed diabetes. Good luck and congrats on tackling this important issue. Your body will love you for it.

Almost forgot, please please stay away from the common artificial sweeteners (Splenda, apartame, saccharin.) There are better options out there (Stevia, xylitol, etc.)

I can totally sympathize with you. I am a woman with a huge sweet tooth but unfortunately since I am diabetic, most candies are a no-no. Luckily, sugar free chocolates and candies have come a loooooong way. I recommend you try out the sugar free Hershey's candies. They may not taste the exact same but they will help you with those chocolate cravings. Also Murray's cookies are really good if you want something crunchy and sweet. But be careful with these products, eating too many at once will lead you to the bathroom instead of into a chocolate coma.
Unfortunately with donuts, there really isn't a healthier option for you. Instead cut down the number you consume in a week. You shouldn't have to give them up entirely but be mindful of how many you actually have. If you find yourself eating a donut a day, maybe have 2 donuts a week. Combine all this with some exercises and maybe transition into eating multi grain and wheat flour products instead of white and I bet you start dropping some pounds. Good Luck!!!

Our body is pretty much like a dog chewing an old bone, try to take it and it will either hold the bone firmer or bite your hand. The easier way to take the bone is to offer the dog a piece of good meat.
So with our bodies. Sugar is a serious addictive.
You need to offer it something better in substitution. You can start by buying chocolate sweetened with Xylitol, it has the same taste as the regular ones, but there is almost NO sugars in it. Xylitol, chemically is an alcohol, but not the same type as in liquor and wine. It does not get absorbed in your system.
Hershey and others carry this product (Russel Stove for e.g.)
At the second phase, you try to substitute the chocolate by something more pleasant, such like a good body massage in a SPA, if you can (save the money from the chocolate and them go for it!)

go for natural sugars like oranges and stuff. It's alright to slurge everyone once in awhile. think of it this way, try going one week with out chocolate or a doughnut, and if you make it, reawrd your self with a few hershey kisses and a doughnut. That way it gives your something to look foward to.

Or buy those chocolate thin things, that only contain 100 calories, then work it off at the gym or something

I understand your plight. I was diagnosed with diabetes about 6 months ago. I was a sugerholic. The doctor told me to limit or stay away from white breads, pasta and rice. I was overweight too. In my quest for something sweet, I've found sugar free cakes, cookies, drinks and CHOCOLATE, All available at my local grocery store. And I use Splenda for a sweetner. I've lost over 20 lbs in about 6 months. Yes...you can have your cake and eat it too.

Well, if you don't mind getting fatter and fatter day by day, continue to gorge yourself on sugar and sweets! If you want to quit, consult a good homeopath who can work with your food cravings.
