My Granny's gingerbread. Best thing in the world. Serve a huge piece in a bowl with half-and-half drizzled on it...

Assemble dry ingredients:

2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon ginger
1.2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt

In this order, measure & mix:

1 cup sugar
1 scant cup oil
1 cup molasses

Then add:

2 eggs, well beaten

Mix & add:

1 cup boiling H20
2 teaspoons baking soda

Stir in dry ingredients immediately - don’t overbeat.
Bake at 350 degrees in a 9 x 13 pan for 25 to 30 minutes.

New England Boiled Dinner. Ironically, my mother didn't like it because she had been forced to eat it too many times as a child, but she made it because my dad and we kids liked it.

2 boneless pork butts, about 1 1/2 lbs. each
1 lg. cabbage
6 to 8 carrots
6 to 8 potatoes
1 lg. can green beans
Dash of salt and pepper

1. Cut boneless pork butts in large pieces in a large pot.

2. Slice cabbage into quarters and put also in pot. Fill 1/2 way to cover pork and cabbage with water and boil for 35 minutes.

3. Add carrots and potatoes and cook for another 35 minutes on medium flame.

4. Then add 1 large can of green beans. Simmer about 10 minutes.

Optional: Serve with a side dish of applesauce and rolls. Great one dish dinner!

Serves 6.

My mother was a wonderful cook, but she could put a hurtin on some fried Chicken, pork chops, any kind of roast. There were very few things that she made that I did not like other than internal organs....ewwww.....Every thing that she made had a just the perfect amount of seasoning and salt.

Hi, I used to love scalloped potatoes made into layers with onions, season cover with water and cook ,1 hour before end of cooking cover the top with bacon, and cook. It was a cheap and tasty meal. Oh and i loved my mum's home-baked blackberry pie, my sister and i used to pick the blackberries.

Do you mean apart from the pig's heads, sheep's heads, liver, hearts & other assorted offal? Frankly, my favourite recipe was anything that didn't involve these or shoe leather grade beef or lamb bones. Need I continue?

Pretty much 'the usual' traditional meals: macaroni cheese, shepherd's pie, fisherman's pie, steak & kidney pudding. And for pudding: spotted dick and custard, rhubarb or gooseberry crumble and custard, treacle pudding and custard, Eve's pudding and queen of puddings.
