The time to stop eating meat on Lent is usually after you have been confirmed. Many parents start this with children at a young age so they will be used to the practice when they are the proper age to practice it.

You have to start at the age of 14. But, most catholic children grow up doing it as a way of teaching. If Mom and Dad spring this on you all of a sudden, it will not go over as easy as if you were raised that way.
