I have no idea, its really weird. There are two theories i have one is that they are testing the person. If they say they don't want a present and then they get one they think that the person really cares about them or likes them also. And two its because they don't feel comfortable saying they want a present and just secretly hope they get one. Personally i try not to do this.

Girls give us guys many mixed messages and sometimes or even often we get it wrong . Some girls may like presents depending on how long the relationship has gone , but then some are put off if given a gift too early on in a relationship also which I've experienced . I suppose the best idea is if you know for sure she enjoys your company and it isn't a first date then it would be fine to give her flowers or a gift . I guess some girls just don't want to give guys the message that they are materialistic for fear of putting a guy off and that sometimes leads to both parties getting the whole idea wrong .

Well the whole reason being is, if you have to ask for something like a present and the lover etc then says yes i'll get you a present then, that just makes the asker feel worthless in a way cause they have had to ask for something to make them feel good.
But if the present is given without asking or even just as a surprise or out of the blue then it would probably be more appreciated, and the reciever feels more loved and thought of. Good Luck and Be Good!!

I do this too. We girls do this so we get more presents! Here, let me explain it:
When someone asked if you want anything, you will say no. But then, you end up getting a real good presents.

they like little presents here and there. We dont want to ask for them, cause we dont want to come off selfish. When a guy buys something for a girl, without us having to ask them, it means alot more cause it shows you've put a little bit of thought into it. Never has to be anything expensive, it could even be a sweet little note or something you've slipped into our purse when we weren't looking.

maybe they want to see what happens or how well the guy knows them... for me that's the same thing as "let's make presents for each other instead of buying them" I think it's to see how much effort or thought the guy will put in but I also think girls do it to see the value of the relationship (if he gets something you're very important to him, if he doesn't he oesn't really care about it) ;o) good question!

Well, girls will often say "Don't get me a present!" so you don't think they're only in it for the money. Also, they may be afraid because they don't know what to get you in return.

They say it because they do not want to sound snobbish or tell the person exactly what they want. Also girls like surprises.. so they want the other person to do something special instead of being told what to do
does that make sence?
