Created a MS Word doc, but cannot open the file, as I receive a error message that the application is not a valid win 32 . File exists in My Documents and Word Program, but the characters and words are zero in the properties of the file. Is there any file reader that can open the file ? I tried repair Office, reinstalling Office, and DO NOT WANT TO TOUCH the REGISTRY.

The problem is not in the registry... Its in the saved file itself. If the file is saved on a removable media, it is time to get a new device.

If you are trying to click on the document itself, this can happen.

Instead, try opening Word and then, File > Open and browse for the corrupted file. Word can sometimes repair a damaged file.

As piemat said, this is not in your registry, this is in the document iself. This link offers some possible solutions to saving your document:
