Well, to be quite honest, most people in America lack sophisticated grammar and tend to lean toward slang and bad spelling in order to type things more quickly. This allows them to be lax with their grammar, and post answers more quickly. In addition, only a select few people actually understand that in order to make a good answer, you usually need to support it with facts, and elaborate upon those facts. For instance, compare the answer I am giving (or any answer I have ever given), to an answer like this:
"u need to chill. grammar is 4 looserz. i don't think its important as long as i no wat im talking about right."
So obviously, that is a bit of an exaggeration, but the vast majority of the world is blissfully ignorant, and care for grammar, perhaps the most powerful tool in our world today, far less than they should. Many people don't recognize the power in good writing.

Even though this site is in English and dominated by Americans, not every person who posts is American or grew up in America. There are tons of posts (in English) from people in India, Pakistan, Argentina and numerous other countries. Their grammar suffers because they do not have a firm enough grasp of English. Why they can't use spell check is anyones guess.

I am not going to criticize others spelling or grammar since I am not perfect myself. But I will say even some of the questions with both I can understand better than other questions that make no sense.

Please close your mouth because you sound ignorant.People, like myself, spell perfectly fine. It's just that we perfer the quick way due to rushing. It's not pure laziness, but typing out the words such as I am doing is very time consuming. Also to answer your question, yes they still teach proper grammar in American Schools.

Well, for your information, many of us use IM style of typing, such as "c u soon" instead of "See you soon". Maybe we don't want to capitalize EVERY word of the english language that needs it! AND, you also sound sort of rascist because have you ever thought that there could be osmeone here who doesn't speak English as a first language?

With programs like "No child left behind" teachers can't fail morons, and everyone must pass. That's why we get idiots who know no history,, no geography, no math, no languages, nothing - just how to down burgers, fries and beer in front of the TV and be proud of America. They actually call it their right to not know anything. No wonder the president is a half-monkey who can't speak English.

Kids get promoted in school even if they don't learn proper grammar so they don't have the drive to learn how to speak and write properly. We had to learn how to use proper grammar in school or they would hold us back regardless of how old we were.

I always use proper grammar. However, If I can understand what they're trying to convey, I don't point it out. Sometimes you just have to use good judgment. There are people who feel ashamed of this and pointing it out embarrasses them even more.

I think it has become less desired. On Yahoo! Answers, many people dont care as long as someone knows what they mean.
