1. Peter was upset and confused. Although Jesus had prophesied about His death, the disciples did not yet understand. He denied Christ because he was scared. He has just seen the governing people prepare to crucify an innocent man.
2. Normally he probably would have been charged with cutting another's ear. However, the governing people were much more concerned with nabbing Jesus, they had been trying to do that for a while, and were preoccupied with that.

Peter, like the rest of the first century Jews, was expecting a Messiah that would liberate Israel from the Romans and re-establish the Davidic Kingdom. That is why Peter was disappointed that Jesus accepted his cross.
Peter denied Jesus because he did not want to suffer the same torture and death as Jesus. He eventually did, but only after he received the Holy Spirit.
I would guess that Peter was not arrested for cutting off the soldiers ear, because they were all amazed at Jesus' healing of the wound. Also, the disciples - including Peter - ran off after that to avoid capture.

Simon Peter did what he did during the betrayal because he was frightened. Jesus just predicted it. Simon Peter was human, with the same emotions as the rest of us.
He wasn't arrested for the cutting of the ear because Jesus healed it, and because the purpose of the crowd at the time was to arrest Jesus. Healing the ear of the servant simply proved that they had the right person. They didn't want Peter, they wanted Jesus.

Yes he was disappointed. It was only after Christ's resurrection that Peter was able to understand the gospel.
Had you been in the Garden, you might not wonder. These people who arrested Jesus had just witnessed some amazing things. When they asked who Jesus was, He said, "I am!" They fell to the ground. He was God made flesh and they were powerless over Him. That was no circumstance for clear reasoning and cool determination. Jesus healed the soldier's ear that had been cut off as well. Jesus was keeping their focus on what mattered.

1. Peter knew Jesus would probably die. The standard form of execution was the cross, or tree, which was especially cruel. Peter was afraid to die. He was a human with little faith. So, the main reason he denied Jesus was that he was afraid.
2. There was quiet a commotion there. The guards actually fell down from the literal "power" of God when Jesus identified himself. They were all afraid of Jesus. Also, Jesus restored Malchus' ear in front of everyone.

(1) Because Simon Peter was afraid for his own life.
(2) Because the Jesus healed the servant's ear before they could arrest Simon Peter.
Luke 22:50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. 51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

1. Simon Peter learned an important lesson from that experience because Jesus brought it up later. He asked him three times to feed his flock. Jesus so believed Peter's declaration that He did not tell him so in words, but in deeds. Three times He said it, "Feed My lambs: feed My sheep, feed My sheep," to show how much He loved him.Simon Peter understood what Jesus practised what he taught on sacrifice and the true kingdom and he teared up. After all this was a man among other disciples including the unaccepting and conniving Judas who thought initially that Jesus was bringing a physical kingdom on earth to rule over. If he was initially disappointed with Jesus's prophecy on his death at the hands of pagan Rome, he accepted it later.
Judas could not bring himself to accept that the kingdom was not something physical he could get rich and powerful off. Simon and the other apostles understood the gospel only after the resurrection but they on the other hand accepted it. And what was their reward ? They transformed from cowering ordinary men to extraordinary men on fire for the gospel, even at the cost of their own lives.
2. No proof that Peter did what he did unless the servant cut off his ear again. No-one would believe the servant. If Jesus was not the man they were going after, they would have taken Peter but Jesus was whom they wanted. This was clear even earlier when they tried to kill Lazarus after he was resurrected.

The mob was only concerned about Jesus Christ. If you read it. The Last miracle that Jesus performed was he healing of the ear. On the other matter, read the Book, it explains everything.

#1 because he was scared that they would kill him.
#2 Because Jesus healed the man's ear so there was nothing for Simon Peter to be arrested for.
