well, they ate on a more set schedule, but other than that....

now we have better medicines, more gyms and fitness tech, we're more aware of eating healthy foods, less hazardous work places, etc.

the only thing i can think of is that back then things werent as readily available (junk food, drugs, etc.), so the fact that something wasnt easily acquired may have stopped people from abusing those things.

One of the worst things in the American diet is High Fructose Corn Syrup, which was not invented until the 1970's. It is absorbed at twice the rate of normal corn syrup and an additive in virtually every food product.

The 1950's didn't have as many pre-packaged microwave dinners either. I don't think that all TV dinners are bad eating, but there are a lot of brands with really high sodium counts to help preserve the food.

In many ways the 1950's were also more toxic than today as well. Cars used lead in the gasoline, coal power plants didn't have the emissions controls they do today and above ground nuclear testing was still happening outside of Las Vegas, NV. Don't forget about the advances in medical science either.

I dont think the 50's were healthier than we are now maybe they were not as fat but medical science has improved our lives so much since then. We I was a child I would see lots of people with gioters and people died of heart problems we can fix now, there were all kinds of diseases we didnt have vaccinations for then killing children such as polio. When people got sick they had to have major operations we do in out patient now, like gall bladder surgery. Women died more often in child birth and neo natal units were unheard of. When I born weighing only 4 pounds they told my mother I would die nowadays a 4 pounder is a big baby in neo natal. So maybe we ate better and worked harder but otherwise health wise we are better off than then.

Really it wasnt alot of people died from simple things such as childbirth colds and flu In the fiftys alot more vaccines came out to prevent diseases such as measles and polio but they werent persay healthier back then. The foods now that we eat and the man made materials the steriods they feed the animals we eat and the diversity of people in our country is what is making us sick now. Polution. lots of stuff. There are millions of people that carry around germs everday back then there werent that many folks but they didnt live longer than we do now.

It has been determined that one of the major health offenders in the past 30 to 40 years has been the availability of SODA machine in schools.

Most Sodas, are very heavy in simple sugars: the major cause of obesity in teens and Diabetes Type II in adults. Teen obesity has been growing by leaps and bounds in the US. Another culprit is the additive "corn syrup", another heavy simple sugar that greedy corporations add to their products in order to enhance their profit margin.
Usually, corn syrup go in substitution of something that is more expensive to put in the product. It is a cheap filler, with disastrous causes to our health.
We should ALL boycott products with "corn syrup" fillers.

Suck this in. Consciously hold in and contract your abdominals while you’re walking, sitting pictures desk or making the supper. This will help to strengthen your abdominal muscles and your core, and enable you to get one step closer to some sort of flatter stomach.

Less overall stress from work. The average work day was shorter than it is today. The wives also had to cook for their husbands.
