This doesn't really answer your question, because I've never tried to straighten my hair.

But, after I had chemo, my hair grew back curly. I'm guessing that's what happened to yours?

Anyway, it didn't last very long before it lost it's curl and was straight again. It was maybe a few months and then my hair was back to it's old self, but with more gray.

I know you can have it chemically straightened, but I'm not sure if that's an option for you at this time.

If not, you can always wait it out.

My son's hair grew in curly too. It was curly when he was born, but it straightened over the years..now it's the same as when he was a baby. It looks cute.

If it really bothers you buy a round brush, a small one and when you blow dry it just style it with that brush and it should help straighten it some. Twirl the brush as you dry and that will help straighten it. Put a holding wax on it to keep it in place (and keep humidity out) or use hairspray which will lock it into place. Most guys use all that goop these days too! :~)

Humid hot days will get it kinking again. Maybe it will straighten again in time.

Hope that helps...I straighted my (curly) hair with a straightening iron that I bought from a hair salon shop. It heats to 400 degrees...I have VERY straight hair now! LOL

I had way out of control curls too when my hair grew back. It has been about 2 years and now it is wavy and not so psycho curly. Give it some time and it may relax. Otherwise you may have to keep your hair on the shorter side to hide the curls. You probably look cute with the curls though and don't know it. :)

Buy some smoothing leave-in conditioner and try that. Fructis has one called smoothing milk, and Sunsilk has one, too. You can find both product lines at any drugstore or Target. They help smooth the waves left in my hair from chemo...
