As I race cars has stated.. some recalls by Ford are mandated by the federal government for safety and are in effect for the life of the car. Others are customer satisfaction recalls that have an expiration date on them.

There is also no guarantee that the recall wasn't performed 10 years ago making the recall null and void on your car (as you should have been getting a letter twice a year or so if the car is registered in your name at your current address if it was still active)

Call Ford and inquire about the recall on the vehicle...
If it wasn't done, they can schedule you to talk with a local Ford dealer.. If it was done or the recall is no longer valid, you are out of luck

The firestone recall with Ford was one of those customer satisfaction recalls. The real recall was firestone's tires but Ford to save face decided to replace those tires with other brands...

Most of those tires were replaced either by Ford or firestone, but now recall customers are sent for replacements at firestone as they are the people actually having to replace the tires due to defects.

depends if its safety, emissions etc some recalls have expiration dates on them . Like the Firestone tire recalls a few years back. But seems as your is a safety concern it can be done for the life of the vehicle. 1st call ford with your vin number and make sure it has not already been done.. Ask them to run an OASIS on your vin number. they will tell you what recalls are open or not.

Wow, that is an old re-call i cannot belive you have not been contacted by ford, it was a major safety issue. Most people who own General Motors or VW veichles had a letter sent to them telling them to return their veichle to the closest dealer to get it fixed. I inquired before about the length of recall periods, Ford stopped their re-call on Firestone Tires on their ford explolers after 9 months, and wouldn't accept new claims. Your best bet is to phone your local dealership and inquire about the 96 re-call and see if its still covered under their re-call program.

I believe a recall for safety is for the life of the car unless there is a time limit for recalls like the tires which you could buy anywheres.

I had a 87 Accord, checked for fuel filler line, due to corrision in 92? was ok. In 96? I had it replaced for free by Honda due to it rusting out.

Take it to the dealership and see what happens. I don't see why they wouldn't fix it. Like someone said before, a recall is a recall.

A recall is a recall. I would take her to the dealer and have her fixed up.
