Carry your money and cc's in your Front Pants pocket! If you have a big wallet, don't use it for this trip. Canal St. is good,..but there are Soooooo many places to get good deals, 32nd and 31sts between B'way and 7th are also good shopping areas, although some of the stores around the corner on 6th and Broadway are Wholesale only. Also St Marks Place bt 3rd and 2nd. is a nice little shopping strip for accessories and stuff.
Also for travel around town AVOID surface busses, they are slow(unless your on a tour bus, then u want to see the sights)
Get a Metro Card(not the unlimited, the pay per ride) and take the SUBWAY! it's really ok to ride except during the Rush hrs of 6 am-9-30 ish and 3pm-7pm. If your staying in Manhattan, it's the quickest way around, but get a MAP of the system(almost anyplace or on-line at MTA.org/nyct). If you will be here In two weeks and your in on Saturday the 17th Avoid 5th ave between 38th and 86th streets as the St. Patricks day Parade will be taking place. anythiong else u need ot know just e-mail me..

NYC is safe. Use your street smarts and avoid shady areas, and you'll be fine. It's dangerous only when you want it to be.

In Canal street,( most likely) a Chinese lady will approach you and ask if you want to buy purses. If you follow her she'll take you to a cellar, and in it is purse heaven. lol A lot of the items, though, are imitation. but really good ones.

New York is relatively safe. Use "street smarts". Stay in main streets and in crowds. Avoid areas where it feels unsafe.

Same advice for any big city

ENjoy it.

New York Is numba one. The place you are talking about is really crowded so as long as you dont carry any of your money in a way that will attract picpockets, then you are fine. If you are worried about gang violance - dont. Its only dangerous like that if u stay here.

It is like everywhere else, do not carry cash, credit cards or anything valuable in your purse, hide it somewhere in you clothing like socks? And you are going to walk a lot,
Don't have advise for shipping, good luck to you.

Just remember that when you buy on the street you are getting knockoffs -- they are not the reak thing, but cheap imitations which are usually illegal.
