Chances are, the people cooking at the homeless shelter are people just like your mom, and many of them probably cook similar to the way she does. The only difference that I can see is that the shelter uses bulk, institutional quality food whereas even though your mom (apparently) isn't a good cook, she probably has the sense to buy good quality food. :) I'd say endure your mom's cooking (but eat as little as possible, assuming it's really horrible. I don't know, tell her you have an upset stomach or something.) then stop on your way home for McDonald's.

I ate with the Homeless last yars Thanksgiving and I had a great time. I want to do it again.
The Missionary does allot to help the Homeless eat and I have sued them before back in 1979 when I was broke, livign under a tree and seen my life going down the tubes and finally said "The hell wiht this shiit", I joined the Airforcem retired and now I just think back when I had nothing....been there done it.
I think everybody in life generally should live on the sreet at least once to feel how it really is. You will be simply amazed how fast a young child will grow up.

I feel your pain...personally, the gruel sounds much better than my dear mom's bland, tasteless atomic kitchen back-to-the-50's cook the food until it's paste "cuisine"...

I don't know what the problem was - w/ Julia Child on TV and the Joy of Cooking readily available, my poor brothers and I endured far too many casseroles and chip beef experiments.

is it any wonder all holidays are done at MY house????

MAKE YOUR OWN MEALS IN FUTURE>im sure your mum could find herself somthing more exciting to do than cooking a meal for you when you dont even appreciate it.You offer shed probably love it.Or stop moaning your still alive arnt you thanks to your mum feeding you all these years. And i bet all those homeless would rather be sat warm n cosy at your dinner table tonight ,than roaming the cold wet streets, after their bowl of soup.Maybe you could go down to the homeless centre and help out and see exactly what you seem to think your missing.

If your mother's cooking is anything like my cooking, you might be safer going to the homeless centre!

Ha - My mother (on a day to day basis) was a terrible cook and I thought she was trying to poison me so I learned to cook for myself at age 10 in self defense. On special occasions like Thanksgiving , Christmas Easter and Birthdays she did pretty good. I started with simple things like BLT's , fried pork chops with American fried potato's and eventually graduated to Pot Roast, Soups, Corned Beef and cabbage.
Good luck!

I dont know what to say....whatever I say could be the wrong answer. Endure your mothers cooking....then throw up. Your mother might have pity and forgive you.

How about cooking your mother a meal? There are loads of cookbooks around. You may be able to teach your mum a thing or two!

What's wrong with YOU getting off your butt and making your own food? Google some recipe sites, start with the basics of what you like - and voila - only yourself to blame if you don't like it! I'm sure your mom would like something better to do with her time than to cook for an ungrateful brat!!!!!
