A good part of that which makes the pimple as large as it is is inflammation. It is swollen. Wipe the area a few times a day with an antibacterial soap (like betadine or chlorhexidine) or at least rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. As the infection subsides, the swelling will come down. The bump should get better and will probably go away entirely with time.

Leave the rest of that pimple alone other than that. If it doesn't get better, then off to the doctor you go.

You shouldn't "pop" a pimple. You can spread the infection . Only open pimples that have a white or yellow puss pocket. Then do it with a sterlized needle and wipe away the puss with a clean tissue. Pimples last 1 to 4 weeks and there isn't anything you can do to get rid of them faster. Once the puss is removed from a pimple it will heal faster. If you use an acne medication, spread it half an inch around the infected area. It won't get rid of the pimple you have but will help prevent the spread of it. I can give you more on causes, prevention and treatment if you email me.

The bump left over is because you have an irritation where the zit was, and now you have an open sore where germs can get in. Your body recognizes this as an injury, so it sends white blood cells to the area to fight off infection. Once the build-up of oil blockage and pus are gone, just leave it alone. If you put some astringent on it and keep it clean it will heal faster. Man, good luck!
