Lentil curry.
Put the cumin in the tomato, fry the lentils and onions for a few mins.
Then boil the lentils and onions in the tomato / cumin.
Should be pretty nice.

You just have to make a lentil Dahl. This is the perfect Indian side dish or a meal on its own.
Simmer some red lentils( about 1 teacup) in twice as much water in a large pan,and add a teaspoon of tumeric salt and pepper.
Then heat some oil untill it is very hot ( almost smoking),throw in some diced garlic ( at least 3 cloves ) and turn off the heat immediately. The garlic will brown very quickly so add 2 chopped onions straight away to pull the heat and stop the garlic burning.
Once it has cooled a bit return to a gentle heat and finish cooking the onions adding 1 tsp cumin 2 tsp coriander powder and a small amount of chilli.
Add this to the lentils and then add the tomatoes. Then simmer gently for about 1/2 hour. You may need to keep adding some water as the lentils will expand and soak it up.
While it is simmering you can also add a bayleaf and 3 cardamon seeds.
I cannot explain how good this tastes exept to say that my mates all say it is brill. It is the way you cook the garlic that does it.Give it a try and see for yourself!

Sounds like dhal to me. Sweat off the onion (reserve half), add the lentils and cumin, season with whatever you can find - I bet there's some curry or chili powder lurking in the back of the cupboard. Add water if you haven't found that half stock cube you meant to throw away before Christmas. Don't add salt until the lentils are almost cooked.
Boil the rice and just befor it's cooked add the chopped tomatoes, some of the cumin, and the reserved sweated onion.
Tomorrow go out and buy a deep freeze - very handy in a tight situation.

You could make a lovely lentil and rice soup or how about white rice with lentils in a "sofrito" (a sofrito is onions, salt, pepper, garlic, cumin, and tomatoes, either sauce, chopped or smashed whole ones fried together and poured over the cooked beans). It is quite nice on a cold night. I hope that I have been some help.

Cook lentils until soft add cooked onion, make into small balls and fry in oil until crispy. Serve with a tomato sauce and rice. If you have store cupboard stuff like chutneys or herbs, garlic etc will add flavour. Some curry powder into the lentils.
I find some scratch meals to be the best.

make Lentil soup............. yum...... boil lentils until soft. Cook rice separately.............!!!!
In another pot simmer, chopped onion, cumin, and tomatoes... I'm sure you have salt and pepper also.....
when lentils and rice are cooked add them in, and you've got a cheaper version of lentil soup....
