The one that you have research fully and are sure will fit in with your life and lifesyle. Not all breeds are suited for all people so much research is needed before you decide.

It's impossible to answer your question. If I were you I would start with getting this book: Why We Love the Dogs We Do: How to Find the Dog That Matches Your Personality by Stanley Coren. He breaks down breeds to personality types and people to personality types and which dogs match each. I wouldn't take everything as gospel, but it will give you some things to think about. After that research all the dogs you like very thoroughly and decide which breed or breeds you want and then go looking for the best breeder you can find. National breed clubs usually are great at giving referrals to dog breeders in your area, Don't in any circumstance buy a cute puppy from a pet store, almost everyone of those dogs are from puppy mills and are often sick and poorly bred. Buying a puppy from a pet store just perpetuates cruelty to dogs. If you find a certain breed that appeals to you check the breed specific rescue organizations, they have terrific dogs that need homes too. And I would encourage you to check your local shelters who have lots of terrific dogs that need homes. Personally I love Boston Terriers, but they are not the dog for everyone or every family. Good luck with your search.

I have had dogs my whole life. my favorite was a mutt. second favorite was a dalmation but i would not recommend this dog he was the meanest hardest dog to train ive ever met but i liked the challenge.
i have weimeriners now. they are pretty destructive and also hard to train. But what a personality.
now the easiest dog and come to think of it he was my favorite was BROCK 150 lb. rottweiler. never needed a leash and was great with kids(15- 20 neiborhood kids would try to ride him take his chew toy right out of his mouth and he never even growled). any command i gave he immediatly obeyed NO MATTER WHAT. He also didnt require alot of excercise.
in the winter he would break through the ice and go swimming for hours. the water woould freeze on his fur and steam would come from his mouth as he breathed. he looked like a bear. his best quality was if other dogs were fighting he would break it up without hurting the other dogs. He was very intimidating.
its imperitive that you get one from a good bloodline because some have been known to snap. this is caused by the brain growing faster than the skull. this puts pressure on the brain and alters the dogs personality. just make sure you meet the dogs parents and they are friendly.
this is just my opinion. it really depends on what kind of dog your looking for. why not go to the local pound you are bound to fall in love with one of the dogs there. you will be saving its life and he or she will realize that. ANY DOG CAN BE THE BEST DOG WITH THE RIGHT TRAINING AND LOTS OF LOVE.

The kind of dog that would be best for you and your family depends on your life style, your surroundings, and how much time you are wanting to spend with this dog.
Are you energetic and out on the go a lot? Do you have a lot of room for the dog to run in? Try a herding breed, like an Australian Shepherd or Border Collie. They are very good with kids and love to run.
Do you live in an apartment with limited space? Try a small dog, like a pomeranian.
Research breeds thourougly to get an idea of their personality. I'd say look at one of those dog encylcopedia books, I have several and they have helped me a lot and helped me to help others in the past.
Check out your local shelter as well, and find out information on these dogs. They're every bit as good as purebreds, and need loving homes.

Boy thats really tough without more information. A dog must be chosen on lifesyle and personal preference. If you have a small appartment you dont want a great dane. If you live on a farm you might want somthing larger than a peakaneese. Many things must be taken into consideration children in the house. House size, city or suburbs, short haired long haired many things. Go to AKC.org and you can read up on all sorts of dogs and find the dog thats right for you, not what someonte else thinks is right for you. Me I love labrador retrevers.

I would go with Liz S on this one, but make sure that you have the time and energy if you take a big loveing Lab, great dogs they are, pugs are low maintenence.
I love my pit bull but I don't think just any body should have a pitty, too many people abuse them to make them mean or bread bad qualities into them to make them mean, my own dog (10 years old now)was so messed up when I got him it took me years of work to make him trust people again, now he would make any family dog jelouse! pits are wonderfull dogs, too bad there are so many jerks out there! Rotweillers are great too, but same problem, they should make rottie and pit owners have a psyche evaluation before adopting!. if I were you I would go for a good-looking mutt, a nice heinz 57! Mutts tend to have less health problems and are smarter due to lack of in-breeding. plus the shelters are always full of them, they need love too, another bonus is no 2 mutts look alike so you would be getting a truely unique looking dog!
I love pups!

Spend some time a research different breeds. They all have unique characteristics and temperments they may or may not be suitable for your particular life style. Pure bred dogs also have genetic diseases that they may pre disposed to ie boxers: cardiac disease and mast cell tumors; chocolate lab prone to allergy and allergy related skin disease; pugs, bulldogs (brachycephalic breeds- prone to upper respiratory issues, labs/golden retriver, dalmation-high energy dogs-need someone who will exercise them regularly ect.
Pets are also a finacial responsibity- Veterinary care is not inexpensive- animals receive and have access to the same medical care and treatments that humans have; ie chemo/radiation therapy, organ transplants, orthopedic sx, dermatologist, neurologist, cardiolgist .
So don't take the responsibilty of a pet lightly. Choose wisely.

If it is your first time you are going to get a dog, get a Tibetan Mastiff. It is simply the best. Doesn't smell and relatively no hair problems, highly obeying, semi working dog ideal for outdoor recreation, hunting any game, sheep keeping, blind people, guarding, sniffing, loves children and other dogs, home staying supports any weather, raw survival companion, fair size and lifespan. Order one now.

The best dog for you depends on your personality and life style, as well as what type of dog you are looking for. One way to pick a dog that is right for you is to do some research, pick a few breeds that you like, and try going to websites such as nextdaypets.com or akc.org to check each breeds temperment, etc..
