In Hebrew, every name has a corresponding number, and the anti-christ's name will have the equivalent of the Hebrew number 666. Nero's name converted to 666, but so do many others.

6 is the number that represents man, he was formed on the sixth day, so I would surmise 666 is the ultimate number of man, God's number is 7 which represents fullness or perfection

This number is found in the books of Kings and Revelations and refers to a concept found in the story about Solomon.
I believe this reference to the number 666 in Revelations also refers to Wisdom and also connects with "The Beast".
Wisdom can be seen in Solomon judging the two women each claiming the child is theirs. Solomon says "Cut the child in half that both may have him." One woman begs not to cut the child in half but to allow the child to live with the other woman. The child is awarded to this woman who selflessly chooses the life of the child.
The story depicts the Old and New Testaments as the two women and the child is The Christ.
So through Solomon we see this wisdom.
Sometimes we see wisdom more clearly in what is unwise:
Solomon is credited with being unwise in having 666 wives.
The Beast is said to live within us as our basest qualities which we shed when we make ourselves holy for the sake of serving the LORD. The description of this is in Job.

The name of the number of the anti-christ. What this means is that certain letters have a certain numerical value. Roman numerals are a fine example. There are many people or organizations could fit the bill. The official title for the office of the Pope is an example, and there are others. It is mainly in the Book of Revelations.

Alleister Crowley took "666 the number of the Beast" as his when he created the Gold Dawn religion. It is an interesting mixture of Christianity, Judaism, and Magick.
