I have never heard of this happening, a friend of mine breeds Shih Tzu's and she weens hers on to a mix of meat and biscuits because she finds it helps the constituency of their poo.
If you are really worried give your vet a ring or ask when you go for his vaccinations.
Be aware as a breed they seem to like their food and yours sounds like he will be no exception. Keep an eye on his weight and make sure he gets lots of exercise. Because they are only little carrying extra weight puts lots of strain on their hearts.
All the best x

Yes the biscuits do swell in their bellies. I don't know of this causing any harm other than making him feel very full up.
I have 2 shih-tzu and we make sure that they each have a bowl with dried food in it.
But we do still occasionally have the same problem.

It depends what feed it is. If you want to check whether dry food will swell then place a piece of kibble in a glass of water, if it swells up then it could do the same in the stomach but if it just disintegrates then it wont. Usually though dogs chew their food so it wont cause a problem.

It may but no problem. Might cause stomach to be upset (not because of swelling just different food) but you would already know if it were huh?
