She had this same lump last year which cost us $4000.00 to first drain it,( then it came back 3 wks later and then the specialist kept her for 5 days and suction the "fatty discharge" from her. It is not cancer or turmorous. But it's back again, and seem to be spreading, we are taking her back to the vet again, but he seems to be stumped. When she is lump free, she is lick a puppy all over again. She's a sheppard cross, almost 11 years old but very fit, not over weight and sure as heck not ready to go down! if you know what I mean. Please help, we're getting a little frustrated with the so called specialist, I don't know why he can't ask anybody else!!

sounds like a fluid filled cyst, absess, or soemthing along those lines but I am no expert .... I would go ahead and find another vet ~ to get a second opinion ~ it may need to be drained and then she will need antibiotics
until then I would check out the infromation on cysts, etc. and see if that seems like what she may have here on some links for you on it

The only thing I could suggest is try an different vet, maybe also provide your dog with more and softer bedding to sleep on in case its a hygroma.

It coiuld be almost anything causing the cyst. From a blocked and infected gland to a prasite or even just an ingrown hair.
sorry to hear that it came back.

my 12 year old retriever mix had similar thing.a cyst that went from pea sized to orange size literally overnight.....if you looked carefully you could see it growing.........like something out of ALIEN.......

it turned out to be a something ( insert medical term here) that had taped into her blood supply....an artery was feeding it and surgery was the only answer

so if your current vet is stumped, suggest this possibility to him/her...especially if it keeps coming back and growing at a rapid rate........or get a second opinion.
