The most common reason for this condition is the position you sit or lie in causes insufficient blood flow to the limbs causing needles and pins. The "asleep" feeling should subside as the position of arms/legs change. If this is a permanent feeling/sensation it could be a nerve problem coming from the spine.

Poor blood circulation.

Don't smoke or drink to much caffeine.

If you mean like after you have slept or sit still for awhile, you have put press on your vessels and closed offf their routes of blood circulation.
