I have had panic/anxiety attacks in the past. I was prescribed Xanax which helps, because it's on a take as needed basis. My question is, I occasionally drink coffee. Of course, coffee may exacerbate the anxiety, though it usually doesn't cause me any problems. If my anxiety does happen to surface, would it be dangerous to take a Xanax after I had a coffee? Would mixing the two be dangerous? I know it's not a good idea, but I just wanted to make sure taking a xanax after having a coffee earlier wouldn't be dangerous

Checking through the literature, I couldn't find anything contraindicating the use of Xanax after drinking coffee. As you already know, however, drinking coffee isn't a good idea if you have a panic disorder, even if it "usually" doesn't cause you problems. But apparently, it won't harm you. Don't take it with alcohol, though, or antidepressants, cold medications, muscle relaxants, pain medication, or seizure meds. And taking it with grapefruit juice could cause a dangerous reaction, so don't take it with that, either.

I have severe anxiety. I take Xanax too. Several years ago I quit consuming any caffeine at all. It really seemed to help me. Try decaf coffee. Then you will have nothing to worry about. Caffeine definately can make anxiety worse. I drink decaf and it's not that bad at all.
