If the steak is described as "braising steak" (or "braising beef" or whatever), that means it's a tough cut, and would benefit from long, low-temperature cooking. Instead of baking it, I'd suggest a crockpot or just a large pot on top of the stove, just so long as it has a lid.
If you want to cook it in the oven, cook it in a pan that's covered in foil, or use one of those plastic "roasting bags".
In either case, you'll want to cook the meat at a fairly low temperature (if you're using the oven, don't set it above 275 degrees), and let it cook for several hours.

To properly cook a braising steak, use must flour, and salt and pepper the meat, then brown it in hot fat. Place it in a pan, and add 2 cups of liquid, cover and cook for 1 hour or more. Then open pan and pour in sauce. Continue to cook for 1 more hour allowing the liquid to cook away, and the result will be delicious.

You can. I would add some onions and bit of liquid like beer - but rather than use the oven, you may like the effect of putting them in the slow cooker better - they will fall apart and be like pulled BBQ for sandwiches

Yes, but don't turn the heat up too high or the high sugar content in BBQ sauce will burn and blacken on you.
