Joseph's brothers did not like him and sold him into slavery

As a slave, he went to Egypt. He was thrown into jail. While in jail God used him to interpret dreams of the jailer. Pharoah had a dream he wanted interpreted and that is how they met.

Joseph became an advisor to Pharoah, and after this a famine struck. Because God told Joseph in advance of the famine, Joseph had stored grain from the Egyptians. People from the surrounding countries would come to Egypt to buy food.

When Joseph's brothers came he got them to bring the entire family, and convinced them to move to Egypt. They were treated very well by the Pharoah. The had many children and the Israelite clan grew.

Eventually another Pharoah came who did not know Joseph. Instead he saw how God had blessed the Israelites with numbers and possessions and he became jealous. He was worried that the Israelites would rise up against him. That is why he made them slaves and killed all the baby boys.

Zipporah's family was not Hebrew but Midianite.

Joseph's father, Jacob, treated him better than his brothers (letting him off from work, giving him the famous coat of many colors, etc). As any parent knows, this is a receipe for disaster, and Joseph's brothers got jealous and sold him into slavery.
Joseph had an eventful time in Egypt, going from slave to prisoner to prime minister. AsEgypt's second-in-command, he stockpiled grain for the upcoming famine.
Joseph's brothers came down to Egypt during the famine to buy grain. After a long and emotionally trying saga, Joseph revealed his identity to his brothers. They kissed and made up, and invited Jacob to come settle near his son.
That was how the Jews ended up in Eypt in the first place.
Some 130 years later, the Jews had been fruitful and multiplied. The current Pharoah was afraid that if there was a war, the Jews would join up with his enemies and defeat him. (Not sure why he thought this. Maybe he was paranoid). So Pharoah sent out word that all patriotic citizens should help build Pharoah's new cities, Pitom and Ramses. The Jews volunteered, and eventually were forces to come to work, and stopped getting payed.
Pharoah get drafting nastier and nastier laws against the Jews, and the Jewish population kept getting bigger and bigger. So he finally made an outright decree that all the baby boys should be killed. Moses was born around this time, and his mother famously put him in a basket and sent him down the river.
When Moses grew up, he tried to help the Jews, and ended up fleeing the country. (He didn't come back until he was 80). He met his wife in the land of Midyan. I'm assuming she converted when she married, but she wasn't an etnnic Hebrew.

Joseph moved his family into Egypt shortly after the famine.

A little over ten generations (around 400 years) passed between the time of Joseph and the time of Moses.

Pharoah became concerned about the growing population of the Hebrews interfering with the plans he had for his native Egyptian people.
