He wakes up every morning with a lot of "eye buggers"

Dog's eyes suffer from generally the same problems as humans.
Causes may include allergies or infections or hair/eyelashes growing into the eye.
Some breeds are more prone to eye problems because of 'baggy'-loose eyelids which allow particles to get in behind the lids and cause irritation.In extreme cases eyelids are cauterized to tighten them.
However,that may not be a remedy required with your dog.You do need to take him to the vet and establish the cause of what is obviously an irritation to the dog-particularly so because dogs will scratch an irritating eye and in doing this will cause more damage to themselves

Dogs and cats can have allergies just like humans.
