i have never had a small breed dog before. She only weighs 1 pound 9 oz. Is there any special way to care for her? The lady that sold her said she might not eat for 1-2 days due to an adjustment period... She sleeps a lot!!

We know exactly how you feel. My daughter bought a peek-a-poo 7 months ago and we went through the same thing. Bella slept a lot and did not want to eat. We ended up taking her to several vets before we really found out what to do. She weighed only 9 oz. The last vet finally let us know that because she was so small her sugar level cannot stay consistent. We would need to feed her glucose every so often to keep the level up. Low sugar level also makes them very sleepy. She got so bad at one point that we had to feed her every hour for a 24 hour period. We also had to feed her by syringe because she didn't want to eat. We feed her glucose (can use regular corn syrup) until she weiged 2 pounds. She is doing great now and weighs around 3 maybe 4 pounds (that will be as big as she gets) and she loves to eat. It was worth the work. Make sure you take your puppy to the vet and confirm all of this. I just know that it worked for us. We did run all the test and the shots. Just take care of your precious baby!! If she is anything like ours you will love her and enjoy her soooooo much!!

8 weeks old, sleeps alot and wont eat for a few days and is only 1 pound 9 ounces? I doubt she is 8 weeks as you were told. However puppies in general do need alot of sleep just like a baby does. However not eating for a few days seems a bit odd to me all the dogs I have ever owned had no problems eating or drinking on the same day I brought them home. You should really have her checked by a vet and either prepair to have vet bills if something is wrong w the little pup or return her and get your money back and stay away from puppy mills.

I am so sorry to hear of your problem. I believe you may have got took. I would suggest you take your pup to the vet right away. Listen to what he /she has to say. If at all possible try to get this persons name who you purchased the pup from, get all the info you can. See if you can find other people who purchased pups from her had any problems also. Also did this pup have any shots? I raise pomeranians and at 2 months old they usually do not weigh 2 lbs. I make sure are at least 2 1/2 lbs and eating good, so some of them may be around 3+ months old before I let them go to their new home. They get a health record of their shots and any other shots that are needed. I do request that they take their puppy to their own vet with in 72 hours for a check up.

I am so upset for you. You have been lied to. No 8 week old pup weighs that little.
Do what the first lady says and hope that this pup makes it though the day.
You have a puppy mill puppy and that breeder sold you a probably 4 maybe 5 week old pup. Go to the nearest pet store and get puppy suplemental food and a bottle. Follow the direction on the puppy milk.

so very sad for you and the pup!
Bottle feed her evry 3 to 4 hours and get it to the vets first time tomorrow.

She should not be sleeping that much. You need a thorough vet check-up, paying attention to a possible worm infestation.

You bought from the worst kind...a backyard breeder at a flea market/fair. These people are notorious for running disease-ridden puppy mills. With your small purchase you (may) be looking at one unhealthy dog.

Take your pup into the vet. Tell the vet where you bought it. Don't be ashamed, the vet will need to know this because either she may know of the puppymill (and previous cases), or at least she will run a battery of tests.

Your pup should not be sleeping alot. And a pup will eat regardless of where it is.

Please make a appt. tomorrow. Good Luck!

I'm agreeing with what's been said.

Puppy mills are horrendus places. The dogs aren't taken care of what so ever and the conditions are just terrible. Did this lady have a bunch of dogs?

Honestly, I'd reccomend trying to take the puppy back if it's at all possible. Most likely, it's not healthy. If you are insistant on keeping this pup, I'd take it to a vet as soon as possible so she can get checked out. A pekepoo (which I'm assuming is a pekengese poodle cross) is another "Designer" breed, another reason why I think you got this pup from a mill. But at eight weeks, she should defenitely weigh more than 1 pound 9 oz.

Please, please, please, get her to the vet.

This question is so sad, I can't even answer it. I just hurt for that puppy. You just brought a puppy from a puppy mill. Why are earth didn't you see this. I hope your little puppy makes it. I really don't think it is going to. For that weight I doubt very much that the puppy is 8 wks. old. Anyone that tells you they won't eat due to adjustment period.. That puppy is to young..IF i were you I would go get a puppy supplements and start feeding the puppy by a bottle. This makes me so sad.
