1. Sunscreen.
2. At least bring enough $$ (about $300-$500) in handy for tips, and other expenses which require cash only.
3. Bring bathing suit though I recommend not to walk around without covering yourself with a towel or appropriate shirts, shorts, or jeans outside beaches or pool areas. Indonesia is pretty strict about this matter nowadays.
4. Do bargain, bargain, and bargain in local souvenir shops.
5. Don't fall for some locals you meet in streets offering you some services. They could be scammers. Ask your hotel concierge instead.
6. Watch out for your purse.
7. Don't leave valuable belongings in your hotel room.
8. A must-visit places:
-Nusa Dua (snorkling, jetskiing, parasiling, surfing, etc)
-Kuta (great place for shopping and clubbing)
-Jimbaran (best place for eating fresh seafood)
-Tanah Lot temple (Sea temple)
-Besakih Temple (the largest temple in Bali)
-Sangeh Temple (this place is full of "naughty" monkeys wandering around. watch out for your belongings :))
-Ubud (the centre of art and culture)
-Ask your hotel concierge about dance shows you can see
-Balinese style Spa.
9. There are guides in most temples and usually they speak English as well, so don't worry about not getting enough info about the place you visit.
10. Tips range from Rp. 3000 - Rp. 50,000 ( About a quarter - $5) depends on service they offer. Leaving tips Rp. 3000 - 5000 is enough for eating out at a restaurant, while for tour guide usually about Rp. 30,000 - 50,000. If you're using a tour guide from the hotel then discuss this with them 1st about how much you should pay and leave tips for the service if there's any.
Hope it helps!
Have a nice and safe trip! :)

Passed through a few years back, the people are fantastic!! So are the parties! Seriously its a great place, take LOTS of sunblock you'll need it, take a lot of small $ they don't half come in handy, taxis, tips etc.
The currency is weak at the momment, which means it goes further! If you can live like the locals it means $3 will feed you aday, going on the Pisss for a night, about $10-$15. Some of the Batik which they sold when I was their was amazzing, about half the prices Thailand!!!

You don't really need to learn any new language. Most of the hotel people understand English, but the locals don't. Still, they're really friendly. Bring sunscreens, and travel guides. Since I went there to visit my aunt, I didn't really have to pay for a hotel. Hope you have fun!
Try some beachside cafe's.... The food is really good. It's better to go at night to these things.

Know some phrases like
Hi
Good morning
How are you?
Dress in a way that won't offend them
Women with bare arms
some gestures that americans use that are not offensive here, mean something bad somewhere else. Do some research on the place and their manners. They will respect you for that.
