Doesn't Spyware Blaster prevent attacks from getting into your system in the first place?

You must install active (full time) virus and spyware protection.
Most internet providers supply this for free.

While Spyware blaster does immunize you against some types of attack , is not active protection.

Technically yes, However .....and its quite frightening Our Computers are constantly under attack I mean about once every minute (seriously) I have found it well worth the money and resulting performance, peace of mind etc from having A Top level Internet security system Installed. I relied on the usual freebies including Windows Defender for 3 months until my system crashed, Thats when I bought Norton Internet Security 2007 and I kid you not it was like an Exorcism clearing out the infections, I thought I,d never get rid of it all but within 3 cleanups by symantec Norton its been Just fun,,,,

Yes you do. That's because no Spyware program catches everything so a combination of them is recommended. My experience is the two best and simplest free ones are Spybot and Lavasoft.

I have about 3 or 4 different installed.....but like virus detectors having more than one running at the same time may cause conflicts...
But as others have pointed out; no single program will catch everything. So use more than one (spybot and lavasofts ad-aware are my faves and free) but run them seperately.

Always have at least two programs to protect your system since no ONE ever is completely up-to-date with all the latest threats.

everything has limits, people who write bugs and malware do not have limits. having more protection is better then having too little.
