Well, for one thing...race isn't a determining factor. It is true, in my experience, that there are more white pilots than others, but airlines will not look at your color as a factor in hiring or not. The only way you will really know if it is right for you is to get started. Do you have your private license? If not, then go take some flying lessons and start working on it.

I started out in college working on my commercial license and decided that I just liked flying for fun. I changed my major and am now working on a pharmacy degree, but I still fly occasionally for fun.

Yes if you have a passion to fly there are several flight schools and also a predicted shortage in the near future. Best place to learn to fly is in the United States Airforce your chance of getting a job would tripple compared to a guy going to a private school our college. You would also be able to fly and qualify on various types of aircraft. I have flown as a passenger with both latin and black pilots or co-pilots. Basic requirements are to be able to pass the F.A.A. physical,Math, Science, Physics, Meterology and Navigation play a good role. On the other side of the coin you may consider flying Air freight a job that is always in demand and you may even get a run that is a steady run where you could have a home. I used to work for a trucking company that supported an Air gargo company I had a good job elsewhere and I too have a passion for Aircraft thats why I took the job. I was able to work on trailers being off loaded on the tarmac. had F-16's buzzing me practicing straffing runs and at one tim saw a worthog put on a demo for the ANG here before an airshow to show the guys what the worthog could do that pilot made some great manuevers and landed that plane like he could land on a dime. Do some searchs on line at the FAA for requirements e-mail some schools and then if you really want try the airforce!

If you have "always dreamt of flying" and "love flying" you have answered your question and need not listen to any answers here.

"any black or latin pilots in the US?"....it's March of 2007, what do you think??
