Your dog could have a food allergy and that is why she is scratching so much to cause a rash. You may want to talk with your vet about getting her allergy tested. Also you can try Avoderm dog food it is formulated for dogs with skin problems there is a 4 step system. Food-crystals that you sprinkle on the food-shampoo- and conditioning spray. It makes a huge difference. I was a vet surgery assistant and I have worked with many animals for several years. It is a little expensive and you can only get it in a pet food store, not grocery store. Also dont give her any table food, just her dog food, if it is a food allergy you could be upsetting her system by introducing table food or treats to her diet. Best to stick with a good quality dog food ( designed for skin problems) and get the itching under control first.

No science diet, no pedigree, no chicken based food, by-products, corn etc or treats switch her over completely to a food such as Natural Balance.. Potato and Duck, Venison and Brown Rice or Sweet potato and Fish feed her that and only that if you feed her treats buy the same brand and formula of treats. If in 4-6 weeks she shows an improvement with the itching you will know it was a food allergy and to keep her on the new food.

Pedigree is crap food.. it will not help your dog in any way.. Science diet is also not good for allergic dogs Natural Balance is awesome and if it is a food allergy your dog has it will help her tremendously.

You could be in for a major headache alot of times the vet can't figure it out either I would try researching online for different approaches to the problem before I drugged my dog out. Sometimes dogs can be allergic to grass sometimes food who knows what it could be. I knew a dog that all his hair fell out and after tons of Vet bills his owner decided to by him special food that contained no fat and now his got all his hair back. My sister has a dog that had awful raw spots on her belly and legs she looked like a red lizard my sister did all kinds of allergy tests had to give her dog needles every other day nothing worked. She moved to a new house and now her dog is fine so it is our contention that she was allergic to something at the old house. GOOD LUCK

My boxer has food allergies. It took several vets to diagnose the problem. He is on a special dog food. You can get dog food from the vet. I found a great food at our local pet store. Wellness brand Venison and Potatoe. Your dog may also have a contact allergen. My advise is take your pooch to the vet. Our dog scratches his throat and ears. Vet said this is common with dogs who have food allergies. THis is not to say that your dog may not have the same thing.

Petigree is really not a high end dog food and it contains meat by products (bad things). If your dog has a a rash its probably fleas or nats. If she has a natural dry skin problem she needs to go on an oil rich diet. Lamb and rice dog food is great for the coat and skin. You can also add a teaspoon of vegtable oil or fish oil to help. I recomment blue seal adult lamb and rice. great foot great price. Evolve lamb and rice is excellent but expensive. Natural balance lamb and rice from walmart is also really good. You dont have to spend a fortune for high quality natural dog food.

If you have determined that the itching is from the food....then you need to eliminate the most popular allergen in dog food...

SOY

Pedigree is FULL of soy fillers. I feed both my dogs (lab and newfy) Iams....as they do NOT contain soy.

If the rash is caused by an outside source (meaning not her food) then you can go to the grocery store and pick up some Caladryl or Benadryl cream. Rub it on the rash and it should go away.

She may just have an allergy to something in the backyard.

First you have to determine if the rash is even from the food. A trip to your vets is in order here. Only he or she can tell you what's causing your dogs rash! The he can tell you what food will help your dog!

Talk to your vet, there are prescription diets of kibble for dogs with allergues BUT first you have to know what your dog is allergic to, and only he can help you find that out.

once you determine that it is from the food switch over to canidae for her specific breed. it will have none of the things that the breed is generally allergic to in it.
