Not true at all... Think of it in terms of gauge. You must know that piercing needles go in gauges with least being 0 and usually the smallest is what they initially use for your ears. This is something like 22. Think of it between those 0-22. When you got your tongue pierced they most likely used a 14 gauge needle. Same as naval. They also clamp the tongue and force the needle through... then have to force the tongue ring in. However, with ear piercing they use a quick "gun" and if I'm not mistaken, it does everything in one motion.

Either way, I got my ears pierced when I was 5 years old and my mom told me all I said was "ouch!" twice and it was all done. I've had my naval pierced which hurt more than that, I'm sure! And I've also had my nose pierced twice in the same nostril. THAT hurt. Makes me cringe to think about it actually. When I got my tattoo, though, that was the worst pain of all since it was ongoing... but seriously... everything is bearable.

I'm actually thinking about getting second holes in my ears... I'd let you know but by the time I actually go and do it (procrastinator) this question will be resolved.

It depends on which part of your ear you want to pierce. The closer to the harder cartilage it is (farther up on your ear) the more it is going to hurt. If you want a piercing that will really hurt, get your nipples done. And like others have said, different people have different levels of tolerance for pain. So what your friend thinks hurts a lot, may be nothing to you.

Actually, I hear ear piercing hurts way less the tongue piercing.
When I got my ears pierced it hurt but only a little bit.
But I've never had my tongue pierced so I wouldn't really be able to compare.

I have my ears and tongue pierced. The tongue hurts way more and the healing time sucks. Your tongue is all swollen. My ear cartilage did hurt more than the lobe but not nearly as much as the tongue.

Pain varies. I have five piercings in my ears and none of them hurt BUT my nose hurt like no other. Just go into it being relaxed and get it done with a needle. If your friends hurt I'm betting she either got them done with a gun (bad idea to start with) or doesn't handle pain well at all. So yes and no, it's true to each person as to how they react to piercings. I handle them well but one of my friends is the worlds biggest wimp and screwed up her cartilage because she flinched. Don't worry about it and get it done if you want to. One persons reaction does not make it truth for all. My advice, don't listen to your friends horror story so closely.

Clip earrings hurt more. I got my ears pierced when I was about 40 because I didn't like losing one earring out of a set. You have to use peroxide or alcohol to keep the hole in your ear clean while it heals, or it will become infected, but that's not a big deal either. You just have to apply peroxide or alcohol or antibacterial ointment more often. After the holes heal, there's no maintenance to do. Just wash your ears like normal. One thing, if you have an allergic reaction to nickel, you will have to use pure metal posts, 14K gold or silver, or a metal alloy that doesn't include nickel. It is a very common condition, but not a big expense.

Ear piercings don't hurt at all.
For some people, there's a little bit of soreness, but I've pierced both my ears several times myself, and there's not really any pain after you first punch through.
Go to a professional, or to your doctor's to get your ears pierced if it really makes you nervous, though.
Best of luck, hun. You'll look gorgeous.

If you just get it down at the earlobe, it doesn't hurt at all. It's just like a tiny little pinch and then it's done. The second piercing up doesn't hurt much either. But as you get farther up the ear, you get to more sensitive areas, and it will hurt more.

so many children get their ears pierced that it can't be nearly as bad as the tongue. i guess it would depend a little on what part of the ear you mean, but a basic piercing is nothing compared to tongue.
