The Focus always gets good reviews in car magazines. Plus it looks good, and isn't trendy so it won't be ugly in three years.

Unfortunatley I would say the Focus. I am on my 2nd diesel Golf (company cars, don't get a choice), drinks the oil like its going out of fashion, approx 1.5 litres roughly every 10,000 miles (I have a private car which is diesel and with the exception of normal servicing never use any oil), over priced if you are buying it yourself, get a much better Japanese car for the money, and not the most comfortable on long journeys. If you do get a Golf make sure it is a the 1.9tdi 6 speed as a minimum, any other you will regret.

207 definitely!
We've had 205s and 206s and we'll definitely go for a 207. Peugeot make really good value reliable cars. My friends have a new 207 and they're very pleased with it.
It's better value than a Golf and if you can't afford a car get a Ford!
Mind you I'm biased . I've driven Peugeots for about 18 years now
And they've been great cars. We tow a caravan and the diesel 206 tows soooo well .

It really depends on what you want from your car! The Ford Focus has a low blue book value & most Ford cars have low blue book value. Peugot & Golf are cute but if your going with a Foriegn car the mid to newer Toyota car or pickups are the leading in reliability. Just ask any transmission, mechanics & junk yards what they think of your selection & the Toyota for the best buy!

Focus Zetec is a great car, leave the 207, it's rubbish, crappy french build quality that feels like it's been made from recycled newspaper, egg boxes, and a bottle of washing up liquid.

Go for the VW, excellent build quality, ride, and it holds it's value better than the other 2.

Go for the GTi.

I like the Golf, but I am not going to pay a lot of money for the same car as the Seat Ibiza.
Focus is good and reliable and Peugeot can make good cars.

I would buy the focus because parts and service will be much higher on the imports!

Go for Golf. They hold their value so well and have a style about them. You can turn up anywhere in a Golf from a school to a country house weekend. Good resale values as well.
