husband seems to think I over react. But, in fact, my reaction is normal and would be for most people. I'm just a tender-hearted person. Why does he think I'm over reacting?

He does know about depression because he suffers as well, but to him, I have always over reacted.

Maybe because you don't talk enough, and he's used to seeing you in a depressed mode? Sounds like you need more communication.

It could also be that you can't see yourself and the way you're acting, so while it seems normal to you, you're looking through a type of tunnel, where you're medicated so you're ok, so it must be him.

Also, you said most days you function well, try getting more exercise in your day. 30 mins a day is proven to give you an emotional boost as good as antidepressants. And it doesn't have to suck, just find something fun :)

I do not think anyone could over react to any given situation.

The way a person reacts is their own way of showing their emotions.

Some people cry at weddings, and some people smile at weddings. I think most men always think some women over react. I feel like some men want to be cool, macho, brave ETC. Men are humans and have reactions too. Most men just hide their emotons.

Because most people get into relationships with someone they feel for whatever reason makes them feel better about themselves and their own condition by proxy...

Some entire marriages are based and built on the fact that they gain a sense of superiority standing next to someone they deem weaker and less than they are. It is also true in friendships and all sorts of subservient interactions between people.

May not be a nice reality, but it is true.

You make him feel better when you are worse off than he is even though you have the same condition. In most instances, people are somewhat aware of that role and play it well to accomidate their own needs of the other person anyway...So, It all works out in the end.

Pretty screwed up huh? But before you feel bad about it... What is it that makes you feel more superior while standing next to him?

Because he has no idea what you are dealing with. You might have to school him about depression so when you do happen to "overreact" he atleast has an idea what he can do to help.

he may does not understand how depression affects the body. try a book talking about depression, that may help him understand what you go through.
