If you are quoting less than 40 words, you use quotation marks around the actual quote and then parenthese after to cite where you found the quote. If it is more than 40 words, you do not use quotation marks but rather an indented paragraph of the entire quote. If you are talking about dialogue, you will do this:
The boy said, "I am going to go to my friend's house."
or
"I am going to go to my friend's house," the boy said.
