People do drugs because it makes them feel good for a while and makes them forget their problems for awhile...and they tend to block out the fact the the crash afterward makes everything worse than before. Then, before they know it, they're completely addicted, and everyone and everything is gone.
As for smoking, I'm in my tenth smoke-free year (YAY) and can tell you that smokers do not smell that awful, gross, stale smoke stench. They don't start smelling it until they've been quit for a little while. People usually start smoking because someone they like or admire smokes. The sad thing is that the person they like or admire probably wishes they'd never started.

I'm speaking from personal experience here. I had a really bad drug problem awhile back. The truth is that I was really depressed, and the drugs gave me a FALSE sense of well being. It made me feel like everything was great, even though it wasn't, but when I was high, I didn't feel all of the bad things. But with any high, there is an inevitable low. I hit rock bottom, but I was able to overcome my addictions. Drugs are bad, STAY AWAY from all of them.

you know the problem is addiction. its not that it smells or taste good. its the additives they put in tabbaco that is the problem.and as for the drugs. when you take them for whatever reason. they make you feel better and as a result you are additive. some people are more prone to it than others. that is why some get additive and some dont. and the ones that do get additive can quit because they have more willpower. so it doesnt matter how hard it is on ones health. its the addition that causes it all.

It's simple-drugs change the way u feel --so if u do not like the way u feel--like grief, lonliness, pain--then ppl take drugs and smoking is just a habit at the beginning and turns into an addiction

First of all cigarettes have more chemicals in them than marijuana. You do not need to put additional chemicals in marijuana to get people to use. Smoking cigarettes is as addictive as cocaine or marijuana because there are over 200 chemicals added to the tobacco. I don't believe people choose to take on drugs it is actually the opposite. DRUGS TAKE YOU ON,without really being aware of the physcological effects. An addict may be blind to the point they do not realize they have an addiction.Without the cigarettes or cocaine or marijuana a person may experience physical and mental pain.

That is a really good question.
People use drugs to escape from the reality of their lives, or to fit in and be accepted by there current group of "friends."
Part of it is probably the thrill of doing something illegal and not getting caught.
I don't get it either. I like my realm of reality.

I don't know why, but, with young people, I would say it's probably the whole rebellion against society and adults (though, they really DO know best most of the time). I guess it also feels good, and most people don't think in the long-term.

I think it is because of something else in their life they cannot change. Maybe to escape to a fantasy world.
