Angle closure glaucoma is a form of acute glaucoma - a disorder of raised pressure within the eyeball. See the wiki page.

In Angle Closure Glaucoma there is a closure of the angle that gives the fluid in the eye access to the drainage part (the canal of Schlemm) and so fluid builds up in the eye and builds up the pressure. This causes an inflamed and red eye with poor vision and a lot of pain.

This can be easily detected by a doctor (if they are on the ball that day) and you can be seen by an ophthalmologist who can treat this easily by using laser eye surgery to make a hole so the fluid can drain.

Its an eye condition where the intra-ocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) increases to the degree that it causes blindness. The reason for the increased pressure is closure of the angle where the fluid of the eye drains.

Surgery will correct this and open it up.
