was he being honest or was it just his nice way of saying no?

Question

i recently broke up with my boyfriend and now i really like his friend. i asked his friend to prom and he told me that he hasnt really thought about prom but if decides to go he will go with me. idk if he really hasnt thought about prom or if he just doesnt want to go with me but didnt want to be mean.
there are some other things that are a factor in this.
one of my friends said that maybe he doesnt want to go because he has cancer and the chemo made him lose his hair so he always wears a winter hat. she said maybe he doesnt know how to hide it at prom.
i never thought of it like that and i dont know if thats the reason why he said what he did....
i just dont know what to think!
please help me!

maybe he doesnt want to bee in the prom with anyone in his condition.. he probably feels pretty bad right now.

I don't think it is because he has cancer and has lost his hair or because he don't want to go to the prom. I'm sure he wants to go, but just not with you. Not because he don't like you but because he don't want to hurt his friend. You said that you RECENTLY broke up with one of his friends. You have to admire the guy for having the decency to not go out with you and respect his friendship. (Hint, the expression bros before hoes-not that you are a hoe but you know what I mean...) Think about if your ex-boyfriend were to ask your friend out and she said yes, how would you feel? Just ask someone else to the prom and have a good time...

if he's a nice guy, and always tells the truth, i would say he's telling the truth about this. and who cares if he lost his hair to chemo? it's a symbol of how brave he was to undergo it at all. if you really want to know whether he was telling the truth or not, ASK HIM. if he's worth liking, he'll be nice, but honest. also understand he might have really not thought about the prom. it's all adds up to whether you believe him or not.
