There's no way to predict what course that Lupus will take, and there's a an excellent chance that most of the time you will be able to keep a normal work schedule. Often, the symptoms flare up then, drop off for a while, with times in between when there are few symptoms.

Nursing is a perfect fit because work schedules for nurses are much more flexible than many careers. Another thing to consider is health insurance. If you have a job, you will have access to cheaper health insurance, and working at a hospital may provide some extra discounts and health benefits. One thing you can count on with Lupus is lots of visits to the doctor. Remaining as active as possible (without over-doing it) is also important for management of the disease, so nursing has the added benefit of keeping you on your feet and moving.

I can't really think of why you wouldn't consider continuing your education. More than likely, you will not be sick all the time, you'll have good and bad days. I have known a few people in my lifetime with lupus and all but one works (one even goes to school and holds a job). The one the doesn't work probably has the most severe case out of the people I know.

Lupus does not make you any less capable of doing anything you want to. So if you want to quit school do it because you decide, don't let lupus decide for you. My mother-in-law has had lupus for 25 years and she is a nurse. Keep your spirits strong, or you'll go downhill fast!
Good luck!

wow, the things that can interfer. i wouldnt quit if i were you. lots of people with lupus have a normal life and continue to work. stay out of the sun and remember your immune system is compromised, so wear your protective masks when around sick people that you will be around during your clinicals and in the future. get a doctor that totally understands your condition and also get to know specific doctors, like renal, lung, heart specialist and liver specialist since lupus likes to attack these systems. keep a check on your bloodwork and take as little medication as you can get away with and still stay healthy. btw, the brain can also be affected. im sure youve done your own research on this disease, but you can lose cognitive and memory skills. most of all, try to keep your stress levels low and as calm as you can. stress brings on major flares and so does sun exposure so load up on the sunblock and when at all possible, stay out of the sun or cover up. i hope i helped and not frightened you. i feel like you can continue to have a full life as long as you stay in touch with your condition and dont push yourself too hard. i know several people with lupus that continue to work everyday and raise their children. just take extra precautions because lupus patients arent able to do like the regular population does, easy does it for you.

You can if the symptoms are not too disabling. Lupus is not infectious (check with your professors if needed) and is considered an Autoimmune disorder. If you can manage your health, continue.

If you are interested in alternative health systems, get in touch. No money, no scams. Just free advice.

of course you need to continue your schooling but you also need to let your teachers know of your illness so that they are understanding of your episodes of fatigue etc. don't let the lupus get you down--you need to keep going and finish your schooling!

you can continue depending on the severity of the disease process. i have seen cases of the disease that have been severe and others that aren't so severe. depending on how you feel, its completely up to you.
