I don't know how the color will look in you, as there are several shades and tones of light brown hair. I will say that 12 is too young to start coloring your hair. Maybe wait until you're 15 or 16 and start with highlights instead of a full-coverage color for your first time. Hair coloring is damaging to the hair, especially to African hair, which can be naturally coarse and brittle as the result of other chemical processes. (relaxing, etc.) There is also the cost of getting the color done and the upkeep of a color that is very different than you're natural one. You'll have to get your hair colored at a salon (as boxed dyes won't drastically lighten the hair) and then you'll have to deal with the roots that will inevitably show after a couple of weeks. That can get expensive. I would really wait until you're older.

Honey, be very careful about coloring your hair. There are concerns that hair dye can lead to cancer. I would try to hold off until you are a bit older, or there are some safer treatments than the ones offered today. If you are really really wanting it and still decide to do it, look into the Chi method, which may be less damaging. I went blonde for three years, and now I'm brunetter again and it is slimming, it makes your eyes stand out, an i have some highlights in it to make it rich in color. Hoever, the highlights, because they are not lightening my hair dramatically, are not as damaging. Good luck!! -Ashley

Hi, It May lOOK GOOD RIGHT NOW BUT I STARTED DYING MY HAIR WHEN I WAS 14 AND IT LOOKED GREAT FOR A FEW YEARS. I FINALLY QUIT DYING MY HAIR ABOUT 8 YEARS LATER BEACAUSE MY HAIR DIDNT GROW VERY FAST AND IT WAS VERY DAMAGED FROM THE DYE. I HAD TO GET A SHORT CUT TO GET RID OF ALL THE DAMAGE.STILL TO THIS DAY,YEARS LATER, I HAVE VERY THIN HAIR AND IT WILL NEVER BE LIKE IT WAS BEFORE I DYED IT.
IT IS VERY DAMAGHING TO YOUR SCALP AND HAIR. AND ALSO HIGH MAINTENENCE.
MY MOM HAS DYED HER HAIR ALL HER LIFE AND IT IT SO THIN YOU CAN SEE THE SCALP.
ALSO IF YOU STILL DECIDE TO DYE IT BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU USE BECAUSE OF YOUR HAIR COLOR YOU MIGHT END UP WITH BRIGHT RED TINTS YOU WILL NOT LIKE. I HAVE FAIRLY DARK BROWN HAIR AND IT TOOK A LOT OF DYING TO GET IT TO LOOK FAIRLY NATURAL, I FINALLY HAD TO USE A PRODUCT LIKE CLAROL FROST AND TIP AND JUST USED IT AN ALL MY HAIR ,VERY ROUGH ON HAIR\. IT FELT LIKE STRAW.IT WAS THE ONLY THING I COULD FIND THAT TOOK THE RED TINT OUT OF MY HAIR. ONCE I EVEN HAD PURPLE HAIR FROM A DYE..AND NOT ON PURPOSE! SO, II WOULD SUGGEST IF YOU DO DECIDE TO DYE YOUR HAIR MAYBE JUST HAVE A PROFESIONAL PUT SOME HIGHTLIGHTS IN IT INSTEAD. IT WILL NOT ONLY SAVE YOUR HAIR BUT IT ALSO WILL GIVE YOU THE CHANGE YOUR LOOKING FOR AND LOOK NICE. GOOD LUCK,LISA

12 is kind of young for such a drastic hair change...16 would be better.
However, if you have very dark hair, you have to strip your hair or bleach it to get a light brown color. This is very unhealthy! If you must, make sure it's professionally done and that you keep it up with a stylist biweekly to avoid breakage and dry brittle hair!

i hope that you plan to get this done professionally--i think highlights are a good way to go. Professionally can get expensive though but they do a much better job and have better chemicals to help keep the hair from getting damaged!

it might be too young . . cause if you keep dying it starting at age 12 . . your hair will be soo damaged by the time you reach 18 .

Your a little young but yeah you can start coloring your hair, just dont go over board. I have colored young girls hair around your age before but nothing drastic, just a slight difference! Don't mess it up though!
