My mom had breast cancer and it was this same doctor who ordered her to be biopsied and luckily they were able to catch cancer early and she's ok now. My mom trusts this doctor (our genereral physician - internet medicine) with her life.

I have a hard lymph node behind my left ear. It is fixed in place and hasn't moved. Now I have had these before, infact I have one under each ear that is hard and fixed in place, had it for more than 3 years and they have not grown. I also remember having a hard fixed in place lymph node behind my right ear when I was younger and was worried about it, only to have it go away on its own.

Ever since my mom was diagnosed I have been stressing about lymph nodes and lumps. my doctor said it's nothing to worry about, and to see him if it gets bigger or spreads (which it hasnt). He said he doesnt even consider it enlarged.

Before the app. i was worried it was lymphoma but he even said he doesnt seem like lymphoma or anything before I even mentioned it.

It might ease your worries to get a second opinion. Ask questions too, so you understand what's going on with your body. Many doctors tend to treat symptoms rather than find and treat the problem that is causing the symptoms. It may be something trivial but it's your body and you have a right to know what's going on with it and why. I learned the hard way not to leave the doctor's office with questions and doubts in my mind when I later ended up having so many "re-constructive" surgeries I lost count due to deformities caused by an autoimmune illness. They may have been prevented if any of the docs in my team of specialists would have recommended certain mediation to slow down the progression of the illness until it died out on it's own. My point is, you are in charge of your health, and you shouldn't leave the docs office with questions in your mind. Don't trust him entirely with your life. If your doc seems like he's in a rush to get you out of the office and move on to the next patient, it may be time to find another doctor. A good doctor will spend time with you and answer your questions patiently and as thoroughly as possible.

I'm sure with what your mom has been through it would make you more aware of cancer and trying to prevent it. I would agree with your doctor that I don't think there is anything to worry about. Some people have lymph nodes that are pominent, but as long as they are not enlarged and tender there is no concern. I have a couple of nodes myself that are very easy to feel and there has never been any problem. Also, there are two boney protrusions behind every person's ear (one behind each). These are part of the mastoid bone. On some people they stick out farther than others. Mine are very prominent, but my husband's are not. You may also be feeling that rather than a node. Try not to worry. If you have seen your doctor and he doesn't think your nodes are enlarged, then you will be fine. Doctors can easily recognize when a node is enlarged. Good luck.

Well if your mother trusts your doctor after helping her with her cancer, then he obviously knows something about it. Especially since you said that he even told you that it didn't seem like lymphoma before you had a chance to mention it to him. That means he's one step ahead of you, and probably understood what you thought it might be.

If you've experienced hard lymph nodes in the past that have gone away, or the ones under your ear hasn't grown, then perhaps your nodes are just like that. Relax, he even said that if it grew or spread to go see him again.

Also, your mother's breast cancer wont increase your risk on getting lymphoma. Since lymphoma is only in correlation with family histories of Hematological malignancies, which are cancers that involve the blood or lymph nodes. Breast cancer is not hematological.

Get a second opinion, or even a third. You are not doubting your doctor, you are just gathering different points of view to satisfy your curiosity, and rightly so! If cancer runs in your family you should be concerned about growths under your skin and spots on your skin. Sometimes growths and spots are only that.. but it never hurts to calm your concern with a few more opinions.

Two options:
1) go back to doc and tell him how much emotional stress this is causing you and demand a biopsy to set your mind at ease.
2) get a second opinion.

It most likely is nothing but you don't want to feel blown off, and you don't want to find out otherwise later rather than sooner.

what you have is an oil gland cyst.. it is nothing sometimes it goes away and if you wear glasses it can rub and hurt.. if it bothers you that much .. tell him to remove it... it is no big deal to have it removed , he does it in his office..
but most people have these in one spot or other in their hair or behind their ears
