We want to go on a trip to Hawaii and spend 2 night in Maui and 2 nights in Kauai. How do you travel betwen the two?

So we could actually just stay in Maui and if we want to go to Kauai just take a flight there spend the day and fly back to Maui?

From Kahului Maui, the way to get to Kauai is by air.
You have many choices: Aloha Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Island Air and GO!.
I suggest you start by visiting all their websites. Fares change frequently because of competition, so you might get lucky and find a great fare.
Aloha, Hawaiian and GO! fly jets. Their service is OK.
Island Air flies smaller turbo-prop planes that carry 37 people. Some people do not like to fly prop planes, but I fly Island Air frequently and my experience with them has been good as well.

Fly into maui for 2 days then get on a flight to Kaui for 2 nights then fly back to maui for another night since you have to leave from the same place you fly into and you really dont want to split 2 days into 1 and 1 it wont feal like enough time trust me. plus with the extra day you can spend it just relaxing b4 you have to back home. You can try many different airlines hawain, aloha, much more look online they have deals for last minute trips and 30 days in advance trips. One time I got lucky and the inter island fairs were 18 dollars!

Flying is amazingly reachable and easy in Hawai'i. searching on what time of the year you flow, the flights are both open or booked up. if you're going at a height time, like summer season as an party i could actual plan all flights prior to time. The slower months like February, April, September, October, etc it will be less complicated to get an inter island flight yet i could actual plan ahead only to be particular! chuffed vacationing!

The main mode and most popular is by air. Hawaii air has flights between each of the islands.

Very easily and quickly. There are hourly flights; you won't have any problem. have a wonderful trip..... it is just so gorgeous.
