Does it have to be cleaned after every use or can I use it a couple of times before cleaning? It's a few years old so the grill plate is not detachable and it's a pain to clean. Thanks!

Ideally you should clean it after every use. The fat that is grilled out of the meat is a bacteria wonderland. However how many uses before cleaning would really depend on how often it is used. Used twice on the same day, a few hours apart is a far cry from used twice in a month.

If you are wanting to use it infrequently but without necessarily cleaning it every time, Ultimatly it depends on how comfortable you are cooking with a dirty grill, and how comfortable you are having a dirty grill in your kitchen.

I'd clean it after every use. If there's any grease/food particles left on it after cooking, it'll grow bacteria. Mine's easy to clean. When you're finished with dinner, turn the grill back on until it's hot, then take a kitchen sponge, wring it out, and just wipe the food/grease off of it. When the grill's hot, it comes right off. (Just be careful not to burn your fingers!)

Ewww yuckkkkk nasty!!
Clean after each use. Goodness, imagine the bacteria sitting on the grill plate after cooking. You wake half of it back up once you turn the thing on.

As a person who has a roomate that never cleans his, please clean it after every use. it's really disgusting to leave greasy once-meat in the ktichen for a long time.
Even if you just use some paper towels to clean the majority of the grease off when it's still warm it would be better then the creature my roomate has created.

I clean it after every use. Sometimes after dinner I turn it on to let it heat up and then I turn it off and clean it. It's A LOT easier to clean if it's warm.

I clean mine after every use after it's cooled enough to be warm. It's a lot easier that way. And I'm a nut about food stuff left on cooking stuff, it took me a long time to embrace cast iron.

Definatly after each use bacteria forms on it fast! It only takes 2 min. As soon as meat is cooked unplug wipe with paper towel and then place a wet folded paper towel on it and shut lid for 30-60 seconds, lift and wipe with dry paper towel again.Quick and easy!!!

Better to go thru the pain of cleaning than the pain of ridding yourself of a bacterial infection.
