Now you have all the humaniacs and people without any real knowledge of dogs or dog training coming out of the woodwork to tell you that electric collars are wrong, cruel, etc. All of these comments are, or course, opinions based on nothing more the total crap that they have heard through their own ranks of humaniacs. E collars work and they work with great results, on the hands of an experienced trainer. I have used them with amazing results for over 20 years. An E collar is NOT a punishment tool, it is a tool to teach a new behavior with. Most people here would not know what that means, so they will tell you that they are cruel. There are dogs that CANNOT be trained without the use of an E collar and there are dogs that require 2and 3 of them in order to gain and keep control on them. Again, they are not a punishment tool, they are a training tool, much like a prong collar is. Of all the people that answered you here, only one understands their use and answered your question correctly. If you do not believe what I am telling you, please do a little research on NVBK and look at some videos of dogs wearing 2-3 of them and also watch how many thumbs down I get for telling the truth.

a regular shock collar costs from $80.00 to $150.00 while the shock training collars with a remote costs from $150.00 to $200.00. I don't know the age, but not when it's a puppy. You should never punish your dog for doing bad. Instead, praise him and encourage him to do good. Shock collars will scare your dog and they will not bond with you and they might even show aggression with people and other animals when they get older if a shock collar was used in it's puppy hood. Try sticking to training classes until your dog trusts you very much and then if your dog is aggressive or completely uncontrollable, I guess you could use a shock collar. I would use one ONLY if your dog was dangerous.

cost depends where you are, Canada? Russia? Australia?
heck in some places these are banned due to them being cruel and unneccessary.
if your dog is so bad that you need a shock collar you have missed earlier training steps with him
most often people are using SPRAY collars instead as they are safer and less cruel.
age - if you need a shock collar for a puppy - then you clearly are not smart enough to own a dog, a properly trained puppy will not need a shock collar.

I would reccomend trying to train your young puppy without a shock collar first. I do not normally suggest the use of an electric collar until about 6 months of age and only after other training method attempts, just because most dogs can be trained without it. Some people are against shock collars completely, but usually these people do not understand that with some dogs, it is the ONLY method that will work. Don't believe most of what you hear about these collars causing stress in animals. They do cause very high levels of stress in animals when they are not PROPERLY USED, not just with general, cautious, proper use.
Their cost can be a very very wide range. You could probably find one at your local pet store for as low as $30-40, and as high as $150.

Shock collars cost a lot in terms of the phyiological stress you put on your dog. Studies are showing even mild shocks cause stress to the dog's system and every time the dog is physical at places it received shocks, the body remembers and the stress hormones go up.
There is no reason to use a shock collar on a puppy, unless you are in a hurry to ruin your puppy's temperament.

OMG shock collars are horrible.. NEVER put one on any dog! Dog training is best done with positive reinforcment and NEVER by pusishment!!!!
The use of shock collars in training has been banned by the Armed Services, the Police and the Prison Service and none of the organisations that train dogs for work, such as assistance dogs, sniffer dogs or search and rescue dogs, use these types of devices.

i do not recommend putting a shock collar on ANY dog unless all other training methods have not produced the desired result.
You'll scare the crap out of them and that is not what training is about.
why do you feel you need one?
what kind of dog do you have?
and what are you trying to do?
you also need to be trained yourself in the use of such a collar.
DON'T USE IT ON A PUPPY!!!!

They vary in cost according to quality and features like anything else. I would not use them on a dog under a year old myself.

give your dog away to more responsible owner that knows how to raise a pup. this is obviously out of your leage if youre already resorting to shock collar. how about we put one on you and shock you every time you teach your dog bad habits?
