According to one definition, multicultural education is a reform movement lead by people who believe than many school, college, and university practices related to race and ethnicity are harmful to students and reinforce many of the ethnic stereotypes and discriminatory practices in U.S. society. Multicultural education assumes that race, ethnicity, culture, and social class are important parts of our society, and that school should provide all citizens more opportunities to experience other cultures and benefit more from the total human experience.

I feel that the multiculutural education does not reinforce stereotypes, but rather it gives students a chance to ask questions about other cultures without worrying about being out of place. This in turn gives them a better understanding of the cultures and helps them to be less discriminating.

As kids begin to understand why these people do 1 thing and those people do another... they begin to be more accepting of the differences.

Multi-kulture is just an excuse to politicize the education process and allows outsiders to meddle in the affairs of the local school board. Times change. In my childhood in Amarillo, the Feds sent these spooky men to come to our 4th grade class and lecture us about the evils of Communism vs. the Wholegrain Goodness of Capitalism. Oh yeah, we had bomb drills too. Have to say, it was a little over our heads. If we keep up sensitivity training the Koran needs to be a part of the classroom assignment.

I think education would be lesser without multiculturalism, especially in the United States where people rarely travel for the sake of experiencing other cultures.

While multicultural education appears to be a well-meaning concept, school sin India, Pakistan, Japan, and elsewhere are teaching hard core math and science classes.

The work is hard....

Expectations are explained....

Poor kids without materials fail....

Rich kids who don't do their homework fail....

Ethnicity doesn't matter....

Hard work and intelligence matters....

Kids succeed....

And in time American kids can feel good about themselves while working as the world's maids, butlers, drivers, and other servants.
