That's your problem. Expecting logic from a theist.
All you can do is prove that the bible is completely despicable and anybody having anything to do with it is a bad person.
That may stop the quoting.

If you read the Bible, or most of it, you will be armed with all you need to argue intelligently with your co-worker...trust me. It doesn't matter if you believe in God or not. And it's quite interesting...philosophy of the ages...a great history book.
You will see that much of the Old Testament is about a vicious, violent, hating 'god'. You will see that much of the New Testament is written by Paul, who came much later than Christ, who quotes Christ, imitates Christ, but then injects his own self, his own sickness into much of what he writes.
But if you read what the people say—who either walked with Christ or talked with people who did—you get a VERY different picture. For example, nobody in the Bible ever states that Christ said one word about homosexuality. If it is such an abomination, why wouldn't what Christ said about it have been reported.
When you mention the difference between what Matthew, Mark, Luke and John say, and what most of the rest say, your co-worker will probably say something to the effect that you're picking and choosing what to believe. At that point, I always say, "Of course I'm choosy!" Look who left out many books from the Bible, and who included the ones that are there today!...They were Catholic men, sexist men, pro-slavery bigots, liars, and quite possibly child molesters / rapists.
We're lucky we even have Matthew's, Mark's, Luke's and John's descriptions of Jesus Christ, the philosopher, the historical figure, whether you believe He had anything to do with God or not, or whether you even think God exists.

Remedial, have you ever tried listening to what he says? People that are trying to defend their faith like to back it up. What I say isn't as worthy as what the word of God says. Look at it this way, if we were discussing the history of the United States, would it be better to discuss platitudes or quote directly from a history book? People are always so ready to 'put down' Christians that quote from the bible. You think you would respect us for at least trying to 'get it right' and not just throw out empty words without basis.

First off, How do you know it is a fantasy book? That is a matter of your own opinion. But secondly the same can be asked of him. The best course of action is to say to your co-worker is that you don't want to talk about religion and that no matter what he says, you are not a believer and nothing he can say is going to change your mind unless he can tell you of experiences he himself has had involving God. If he refuses to respect your right to your own opinion (same goes for you) then get up and walk away. Personally, I love church but dislike the Bible because is a compilation of writings written by different men and you can tell that they all have their views as to what may have happened, how it happened and what it really means. And depending on what version you believe in, it was changed to suit the needs of another group of men who didn't like another interpretation of someone else. Don't get me wrong but some of it is valid but not all of it.

Luke 8:11 - Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
Luke 8:21 - And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.
Luke 11:28 - But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
John 10:35 - If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
Acts 4:31 - And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
Acts 13:46 - Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

Why do you argue about it if you aren't willing to have an open mind to what he is saying? And what makes you think it's a fantasy Book unless you've actually read it thru? Is there anything wrong with a Book that tells you how to live a good life?

I don't feel that it is a fantasy book, he should also be able to explain what he's quoting so that you can understand it. Ask him to and then give him time. I hope he has a good understanding of what the meaning of his quote's are. Also if you read and gain in knowledge about the things you argue about you'll be able to put him in his place. Do your homework, this always makes for good grounds for any argument. Knowledge is power.

The true response of those who have become backed into a corner with logic. Spout scripture. You have won my friend. The thinking man will be able to see the oppositions point, take into account its legitimacy, and ultimately accept defeat gracefully if the point rings true.
The religious man will never see the oppositions point, will argue the point, and never accept defeat because his religion does not allow him to.

Why do you argue about religion with him? You're not going to change his mind unless you use quotes from his bible.

The poor guy doesn't know any better. He's not encouraged to think outside of the box and use his brain which is saddening in this day and age.
You need to go to the link below and print it out. Start asking the questions to your co-worker and see if that shuts him up. It worked for me. Good luck

The argument is about the validity of The Bible being God's word;so it makes sense to bring up scripture.
