If it's with HEART, not lip service, I think that's what matters.

First no on can actually answer this but God.
As to the sub-question, again only God could answer that.
But having said the above here is my guess (seeing that I am NOT in any way caiming to be God).
Related to the first question... Assuming that God does want to be worshipped. God would care how God is worshipped because without some form or some set of guidlines then there would be no structure and eventually no one would care and no one would worship. To be able to worship you have to have some set of guidlines to follow otherwise you have no idea if what you are doing makes any sense or not.
Related to the second question... Again my best guess would be:
If God took the time to create something that is more than an inanimate object or more than a life with no real consiousness then I would have to believe there is some reason for giving us consiousness. So God must care about us if God gave us that gift and in return it only makes sense that God might desire for us to care back.
Just my opinions

John 4:23 - But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
John 4:24 - God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Sure He does, He loves us so much He just wants to hear from us. We don't have to have a particular way of doing it, whatever you feel at the moment as long as it comes from your heart in love. Studying His Word is worship.

He doesn't need to be worshiped and for that matter He doesn't need anything at all. It is us who need His favor and mercy, so just like approaching someone to ask for a favor we must do it in a nice way, similarly, approaching the Supreme has to be done in a very unique and venerable way

god wants us to put him first before anything, he does care if we worship him, he wants us to trust him, and become like him. worshiping him is the only way to get where we are suppose to be.

I think God want us all to live good lives and help each other. When we do that, I think he can really rest. Don't get caught up in the politics of religion. I am sure he isn't.

We are all part of a great wisdom. Call it what you like, God if you will. I don't think it ask for anything, and it doesn't give. It doesn't reward, or punish. It just is.
