Back in the early 1990s every time I went to the services on the M25 there would be 1 or 2 cars with a couple of smartly dressed men inside calling out to people walking past, including me.
When I went to see what they wanted, the passenger had a cloth on his lap which he removed to reveal a tray full of watches. They were different men each time I saw them but they had the same spiel each time,
"Hello, these are left over from a promotion we've been running in Tonbridge and we are offering them at the vastly reduced price of £300 each".
I assumed they were just dodgy geezers, but it seemed such a bizarre way to flog watches I wondered if there was something else going on.
Haven't been there for at least 10 years, they may still be there!

Buyer Beware is still valid but the reason they are not seen quite so often is that the Police have either bought them all or, more likely, warned them off. Now it's 'leather coats' at Keele on M6.

There were companies who put full page ads in magazines showing the watches at high prices. They were then offered in this way at a much lower price. I wonder if they were good value............?
